Dear . . ., I Got it Wrong

Dear BOD,

To avoid equivocation, I'll make this short. I got it wrong. I'm sorry. I'll try harder to do my, homework before I fly off the handle in the future. I'm sorry for the picture I painted. I painted way too broadly in those colors: you deserve for me to paint such things individual events, not typical (of person or group) or related to the general population of the group.

P.S. Thanks, Kev

'Sorry, little brother, but I have to disagree with you in a broad and general way. Having sat through those board meetings, I did not and have not experienced the exchanges you describe. Yes, the size of counseling staff was discussed at some length, but in the end, there was consensus that the camper-to-staff ratio depended entirely upon two things: age of campers and our decision to not require pre-registration (which mean a Director is obligated to guess at the number of adults needed). With some new member on the board, there is a learning curve necessary to catch them up on all the complex dynamics that make for a successful camp. There is freedom to ask any question – even difficult ones – but in the end there was not even a hint of your camp session or any other week of camp that needed change, revision, or given closer scrutiny. That was an educational session and not a critique.

And by the same spirit that made you feel judged by people who have not experienced your session of camp, I would caution you about judging the wealthy. You paint a picture, Ty, of an organization where politics and power are the fare of the day. Pal, I’ve been in politically charged meetings, and the Yamhill Board is certainly not that arena. These are godly, Spirit-filled men who passionately love camp and want what’s best. Believe it or not, it really is a ministry team, and I find my time with those guys refreshing and encouraging. Yes, there are certainly times when people are “knot-heads,” and there’s plenty of room for disagreement, but those moments are the exception and not the rule.

Nobody works harder at any particular week of camp sessions than those who serve at Pre-Teen Camp, and more specifically, your family. That is a fact that is know, shared, and acknowledged by many. If you’ve heard anything different from a “knot-head” then it’s a personal problem: theirs. Don’t make it yours!

Finally, that Camp belongs to God. He has used it powerfully in the Kingdom for many years and He will continue to wield it for His own purposes. Keep praying. Keep serving. Keep sacrificing, because God is faithful! (And the rest of us are knot-heads. Did I mention that?)

Okay, thank you for correcting me. I love it when someone can show me that people are better than I think that they are, and can help me improve my disposition. I shall apologise on the big board, because it's bigger, for my lack of knowledge and judgment.

I only get the details I need to do my job (in this case enumerating my respoonsibilities to counter the "question"), I'm sorry I didn't take that into consideration.

Again, let me emphasize that this was framed to me as an innocent comment, but it amounts to a personal accusation, no matter how innocent, and I worked hard for a reputation as a hard worker, and a good person.

I also must admit that, though the same wealthy individuals may have been involved, my distaste for their behavior was not camp- related.

I still have a few questions that might help me rest better, maybe an email? If I thought about it, I'd have done that in the first place.

Yeah, sure. Email me! HOWEVER ... I do want the entire blogmunity (a galaxy where honesty and candor is the norm!) that you are KNOWN for your integrity and passion to serve! I could tell you that in an email ... but the world needs to hear it again.
Thanks for the tender spirit, chum!
